Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) is a great program that allows parents to send their children to an accredited preschool to prepare for kindergarten and elementary school. Upon entering kindergarten, children are expected to recognize most letters in the alphabet, numbers from 1-10, and write their names. They also should have had practice with holding a pencil and using scissors. If incoming learners do not have these skills, they may have challenges completing the work presented during kindergarten. This is why VPK is so important, to make sure your child is ready from day one. And, VPK is paid for by the government, so it’s a great option that is open to everyone.
No doubt you’ll see many places advertising they offer VPK. However, once your child is three, these signs in front of preschools, houses of worship and daycares are going to start sticking out more as you begin your search. Here are some tips to help you find the right VPK in Coconut Grove, Pinecrest, FL, South Miami, Coral Gables, and surrounding areas.
Margaux Teachers Are Trained in Childhood Development
Significant growth and development milestones happen during the preschool years. The teachers at Margaux Early Childhood School use a curriculum that supports all development areas, and therefore is closely aligned with the VPK curriculum. Many of our teachers have higher education in childhood development. They have made careers out of nurturing children to explore and develop the skills that will lead them to be successful lifelong learners.
A Nurturing Environment That Introduces Social Interaction
It can be tough to start a new school, especially if you’ve never been to one before! Our VPK students come from all types of backgrounds, and for some this can be their first educational experience away from home. Sometimes it can be challenging and our teachers are excellent at supporting children and parents as they navigate this transition. Through intentional small group experiences we ensure that new students get the needed care and attention to be successful. This supportive transition period allows for each child to develop the social skills to work in a group environment, which is an excellent set-up for success when starting kindergarten.
Careful Attention To Progress
Twice a year, our teachers conduct a state-required formal assessment of each child using tools developed for VPK. These are done in a very comfortable and non-stressful environment and are done by the child’s classroom teacher. In addition to the observations, anecdotal records, and artifacts, these assessments give us important information on your child’s progress. In the event that there are any concerns, our teachers communicate directly with parents so we can work together to support your child.
There are many other reasons why The Margaux School is an excellent choice for VPK in Coconut Grove, Pinecrest, FL, South Miami, Coral Gables, and surrounding areas. And beyond VPK, we have additional enrichment programs, optional extended hours, and more. We look forward to telling you more when you come for a tour. Contact us at margauxschool@judeagables.org.
